Much of the suspense of CBS' session at the semiannual Television Critics Association press tour came from whether or not CBS Chairman Les Moonves would respond to a slew of insults levied by Donald Trump. Moonves stayed mostly above the fray on Saturday (Jan. 17), but still found ways to mock Trump and NBC Entertainment President Jeff Zucker.

On Wednesday (Jan. 14), during a panel for "The Apprentice," real estate mogul and new reality star Donald Trump was asked about CBS' attempts to make scheduling moves to blunt the momentum of his new show.

"Look, I've worked with Les Moonves," Trump declared. "I think Les Moonves is the most highly overrated person in television. That's just my opinion."

But Trump's opinion didn't stop there. Tapping into animosity that partly stems from CBS' handling of the Miss Universe pageant -- CBS claims the pageant was dumped due to low ratings, while Trump, who owns the show, says he moved it to NBC himself -- The Donald continued by speculating as to how Moonves would perform on "The Apprentice."

"[L]et me put it simply: If Les Moonves was a contestant on this show, he would have been fired by the third episode," Trump said. "[A]nd unlike most people, I like Les Moonves."

On Saturday, Moonves feigned bafflement and explained that the warmth was mutual.

"The reason I'm perplexed is, I like Donald," Moonves said. "We've always had a cordial relationship... I'm going to take the high road and I'll just chalk up his behavior to having a very bad hair day."

Later in the conference, pressed again to explain Trump's barbs, the apparently well-coifed Moonves again chided the billionaire's architecturally complicated 'do, while sneaking in a crack about a balding competitor.

"Look, if you had hair like mine, I could understand why he's jealous," Moonves repeated. "I might say the same about Jeff Zucker, but I won't."
